How To Operate a John Deere X380
Product Features
Built To Perform
23 HP Kawasaki FR691V — the biggest engine in the X300 lineup
Commercial-grade Kawasaki FR-series V-Twin paired with John Deere's iTorque™ system delivers 23 hp of pulling power. Extra headroom for tall grass, hills, and heavy attachments — with consistent RPM at the deck for a beautiful, level cut every pass.
48-in. Accel Deep™ Mower Deck with optional MulchControl™
The wider 48-in. Accel Deep™ stamped-steel deck cuts your mow time by ~14% versus a 42-in. deck. One-touch MulchControl™ (optional) lets you flip between mulching, side discharge, and bagging modes on the fly — a beautiful lawn, fewer fertilizer needs, no clippings on driveways.
K58 Hydrostatic Transaxle · Twin Touch™ pedals · Cruise Control
Heavy-duty K58 Tuff Torq® hydrostatic transaxle with an oil cooler stays cool under load. Twin Touch™ pedals for effortless forward/reverse without shifting, cruise control for long straightaways, and an 18-in. high-back adjustable-suspension seat for all-day comfort.
Mow, mulch, haul, and bag through spring, summer, and fall — then tackle winter with a front blade or 44-in. snow blower for easy snow removal. A single tractor that works every season, backed by a 4-year / 300-hour bumper-to-bumper warranty.

Best mower I've owned!
After 20 years with my old lawn tractor, I finally upgraded to the X380 with the 48" Accel Deep deck. What a difference! My 1.5 acres used to take forever, but this machine cuts beautifully and fast. The 23 HP Kawasaki engine starts right up, even on cold mornings. The hydraulic deck lift is a back saver, no more struggling to adjust the height. Highly recommend for anyone with a decent-sized yard.

Handles my property with ease
I've got about 2 acres, some of it a bit hilly, and the X380 has been a champ. The K58 heavy-duty hydro transmission handles my slopes without a hiccup. I appreciate the power of the 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V engine, never feels like it's bogging down, even in tall, wet grass during spring. The cut quality from the 48" Accel Deep deck is fantastic, leaves my lawn looking like a golf course. Very happy with this purchase.

Strong and reliable for our acreage
Living out here in Wyoming, we have a good bit of land to maintain. The John Deere X380 has been a lifesaver. The 23 HP Kawasaki engine is powerful enough for all the tasks I throw at it, not just mowing. The hydraulic deck lift is super convenient for clearing obstacles or changing my cut height on the fly. The 48" Accel Deep deck gives a perfect cut every time. Deere really makes solid equipment.

Smooth operation, great cut
I retired last year and finally got serious about my lawn. The X380 is a joy to operate. The K58 hydro transmission is incredibly smooth, makes navigating around my trees and flower beds a breeze. The 48" Accel Deep deck really does pull the grass up for an even cut. Plus, that 23 HP Kawasaki engine is surprisingly quiet for how powerful it is. My yard looks better than it ever has.

Easy to use, comfortable ride
My kids got me this X380 for my 1-acre property, and I was a bit nervous about operating it at first. But it's so easy! The hydraulic deck lift is simple to use, and the steering is very responsive. The 48" Accel Deep deck cuts my grass beautifully. Only reason it's not 5 stars is it's a big machine, but it sure does the job well. That Kawasaki engine has plenty of get-up-and-go.

Workhorse for my home lawn
As a contractor, I know good equipment. And this X380 is solid. I use it for my 2.5 acres at home. The 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V engine is a beast, never heard it struggle. The K58 heavy-duty transmission gives me confidence on the inclines around my property. The 48" Accel Deep deck handles the thick Texas grass with no problem. It’s well-built and I expect it to last for years, just like my other Deere equipment.

Good for our desert landscaping
We have a large property with a mix of turf and native landscaping. The X380 with its 48" Accel Deep deck is great for the turf areas, giving a clean, even cut. The hydraulic deck lift is essential for navigating around rocks and varied terrain without constantly getting off. The 23 HP Kawasaki engine has plenty of power. It's a big investment, but it handles the heat and dust well.

Great cut for my larger city lot
My 3/4 acre lot is big for city standards, and this X380 is probably more than I need, but I love it! The 48" Accel Deep deck makes quick work of the grass, and the cut quality is superb. The 23 HP Kawasaki engine is super reliable. The hydraulic deck lift is simple and effective. It's a powerful machine, maybe a bit overkill, but I'll never regret buying top quality.

Handles tough northern grass
Got the X380 in early spring for my 2 acres here in North Dakota. The K58 heavy-duty hydro transmission is smooth even on some of my rougher spots. That 23 HP Kawasaki engine really shines when the grass is thick after a good rain. The 48" Accel Deep deck mulches beautifully. I also use it with a cart for hauling, and the power is great for that too. Solid machine!

Good for damp pacific northwest
My 1 acre in Oregon gets quite a bit of rain, which means thick, damp grass. The 48" Accel Deep deck on the X380 handles it better than any mower I've had. The 23 HP Kawasaki engine is robust and dependable. The hydraulic deck lift is handy when dealing with fallen branches after a storm. It's a solid, reliable machine, just what I needed for our climate.

Fantastic machine for my home ranch
I run a small family ranch, and while the X380 isn't for the pastures, it's perfect for my 3-acre home yard. The 23 HP Kawasaki FR691V engine is a powerhouse, never skips a beat. The 48" Accel Deep deck cuts through thick Texas grass beautifully, even after a good rain. The hydraulic deck lift is a dream when I'm quickly adjusting for obstacles. Really happy with this Deere.

48-inch deck cuts a huge amount of time
The width difference over the 42-inch decks is real. On 4 acres, that's 20+ minutes saved per mow. Add the Kawasaki 23 HP and this thing is unstoppable.

Hills? What hills.
23 HP iTorque + K58 transaxle = flat out muscle. My property has a nasty grade and this tractor doesn't even breathe hard. Cruise control on the flats saves my leg.

Runs a snow blower + front blade like a champ
Full welded frame, K58, and 23 HP — I run a front blade AND a 44-inch snow blower depending on the storm. Best year-round tractor I've owned.

Cut quality is the reason I'd buy it again
Third season on the X380 and the finish is still dealership quality. Even in thick spring growth it lays the grass over cleanly in one pass instead of leaving stragglers I have to go back over.

Starts on the first turn, every time
Cold mornings, hot afternoons, sitting three weeks between mows — the X380 fires right up. No surging, no stalling when I drop into taller grass.

Comfortable enough for a two-hour mow
The seat and control layout on the X380 are genuinely well designed. I do about two hours at a stretch and get off without a sore back, which was never true of my old machine.
— Marisol T. · Bastrop, TX · 5 months ago · Verified
Better value than the box-store brands
I shopped the orange and red brands first. For the build quality and warranty, the X380 was the easy call — and Deere resale value is in a completely different league when you go to sell.

Maintenance is homeowner friendly
Oil, filter, blades and grease points on the X380 are all easy to reach. No pulling half the machine apart to do a routine service like some of the competition.
